This post is about Latticed Steel Structures and Towers that are mostly used in KSA. In KSA for Transmission lines we follow SEC Standards. Saudi electricity Company provides the outline/fabrication drawings of different types of latticed steel towers. There are many types of towers used for 380kV transmission lines in KSA like F-Series, MF Series and SN Series etc. The mostly Used towers for 380kV Transmission lines in KSA are F Series and MF Series towers.

380kV Double Circuit Vertical Configuration Tower (MF-Mountainous Area)
MF Series towers are used in Mountainous Areas of Saudia Arabia. Its design is for double circuit vertical configuration. Following are design parameters for MF-Series Towers
The design rulling span of MF Series towers is 450 meters. Other design parameters are shown in above image.
380kV Double Circuit Vertical Configuration Tower (F-Flat Area)
F Series towers are used in Flat and smooth areas where no Mountainous exist. Its design is also for double circuit vertical configuration. Following are design parameters for F-Series Towers
The design rulling span of MF Series towers is 450 meters. Other design parameters are shown in above image.
Latticed Steel Structures (Important points related to 380kv & 132kV)
If you are a design engineer, Estimating engineer or want to enter these fields in KSA remember the following important points related to Latticed Steel Structures
- You will receive outline drawings, design drawings and fabricatioin drawings from SEC in Tender Documents.
- You will also receive black weights of each components of these towers (Basic Body, Body extension, leg extension, platforms etc.)
- Important things you need to do while calculating tower weights
- Check the operating area Eastern, western or southern
- Apply Zinc Coating & hot-dip galvanization as per SEC requirements

- You need to determine the body extensions and leg extensions and overall hieght of the latticed steel structures using PLS CADD
- For Latticed steel towers other than SEC provided the requirements shall be as per TES-P-122.05, Part I and 20-TMSS-01.
- The existing family of towers provided by SEC are designed only up to 1,000m altitude above mean sea level and without uplift.
