Safety Assessment at Saudi Aramco Part 3

Posted on October 29, 2025October 29, 2025 by Engr. Hamid Ali

This is a safety assessment exam at Saudi Aramco part 3 and it covers MCQs 31-50. It is a practice test for all the interested safety profeccionals at Saudi Aramco, which is the world’s largest oil company and a major player in the energy sector based in Saudi Arabia.

The primary purpose of this document is to test the your knowledge on critical safety protocols and procedures that must be followed while working at Saudi Aramco facilities. Passing such tests is often a mandatory requirement for personnel to be certified to work on-site.

Saudi Aramco safety MCQs part 3

Saudi Aramco Safety Quiz – Part 3 (Questions 31–50)

31) What are the most important self-developed skill of a site safety officer?

  • Conduct site safety inspection with a checklist
  • Develop a safety inspection checklist based on knowledge and anticipated hazards
  • Conduct toolbox safety meeting
  • Produce good looking reports
The key skill is the ability to identify hazards and ensure compliance through systematic inspections using checklists. Regular inspections detect unsafe conditions early and ensure corrective actions.

32) What is the number one cause of confined space death?

  • Explosive atmosphere
  • Oxygen enriched atmosphere
  • Hydrogen sulphide poisoning
  • Oxygen deficient atmosphere
The most common cause of death in confined spaces is lack of oxygen. Normal air is ~20.9% O₂; below 19.5% it becomes hazardous and can cause rapid unconsciousness.

33) When lifting over or adjacent to process piping, etc. what is required?

  • Hold tag
  • Welding Machine
  • Rigger 3
  • Hot work
  • All of above
Operations near process piping may create ignition/energy hazards. A Hot Work permit or equivalent controls are required so risks are identified and managed before lifting proceeds.

34) What is used to control suspended loads?

  • Slings
  • Guys
  • Tag line
  • Shackles
  • All of above
Tag lines are ropes attached to loads to control movement and rotation during lifts. They help guide loads safely without personnel standing under them.

35) If you found a fire exit blocked by a wooden pallet what would you do?

  • Leave it
  • Move it at quitting time
  • Move it immediately
  • Wait for someone else to move it
Fire exits must remain unblocked at all times. You should remove the obstruction immediately to ensure safe egress in emergencies.

36) Before a lift plan can be used it must first be what?

  • Signed by the superintendent
  • Signed by Operator
  • Copied and filed
  • Approved by a competent person or rigger 1
A competent person (often Rigger I) must review and approve lift plans to verify crane capacity, rigging, environment and other safety criteria before lifting.

37) What is the permissible noise exposure for an eight hours work shift?

  • 80
  • 90
  • 100
  • 120
The typical permissible exposure limit (PEL) for an 8-hour shift is 90 dBA. Prolonged exposure above this requires hearing protection and a hearing conservation program.

38) What is the purpose of a hold tag?

  • To isolate or de-energize equipment
  • To work the job safely
  • To explain the reason why the equipment is being locked out
  • All of above
A hold tag communicates why equipment is locked out and who placed the lock/tag, preventing accidental re-energization and protecting workers.

39) Hold tags and locks are primarily intended to protect the individual who is doing the work from:

  • Being thrown in jail
  • Leaving until the work is completed
  • Being injured in case of accidental start-up
  • Sleeping
Lockout/tagout procedures prevent accidental re-energization of equipment while maintenance is performed, protecting workers from injury or death.

40) Where is a work permit required?

  • All Saudi Aramco Areas
  • In areas designated by the department manager as requiring a work permit
  • Construction workshop
  • None of the above
Work permits are required in areas or for operations designated by management or procedures (hot work, confined space, etc.), not necessarily everywhere.

41) What is the grade of the supplied air for hoods and respirators during abrasive blasting?

  • A
  • B
  • C
  • D
Grade D breathing air is required for supplied-air respirators (adequate oxygen content and low contaminants) during abrasive blasting to protect workers’ respiratory health.

42) Who is allowed to perform abrasive blasting?

  • All Saudi Aramco employees and Contractor
  • All Saudi Aramco employees and Contractor with 3rd party certification
  • All Saudi Aramco certified employees and Contractor
  • Contractor abrasive blasters
Abrasive blasting requires trained and certified personnel in line with Saudi Aramco requirements due to high health/safety risks (silica exposure, PPE, ventilation).

43) Flammable materials storage areas cannot be located within ______ of other buildings or structures:

  • 25 ft
  • 50 ft
  • 50 meters
  • 100 ft
Fire safety standards require flammable storage to be at least 50 ft (≈15 m) away from other buildings to reduce fire spread risk.

44) Keep stored O2 cylinders separated from fuel gas cylinders by ___ or by a ___ high noncombustible barrier.

  • 20ft, 10ft
  • 15ft, 5ft
  • 20ft, 5ft
  • 10ft, 5ft
Oxygen and fuel gas cylinders must be separated by 20 ft or by a 5-foot-high noncombustible barrier to prevent dangerous interactions if leaks occur.

45) At what concentration of H2S will loss of consciousness and death occur within minutes?

  • 100 ppm
  • 250 ppm
  • 500 ppm
  • 1000 ppm
H2S at ~1000 ppm is rapidly lethal; a few breaths can cause immediate collapse and death. Lower concentrations are also hazardous.

46) If someone is injured on your job site, a preliminary written report must be submitted to the Saudi Aramco PMT within ______ and final report within ______:

  • 2 hours, 48 hours
  • 24 hours, 72 hours
  • 8 hours, 72 hours
  • 1 hour, 48 hours
Saudi Aramco requires a preliminary report within 24 hours and the final report (with root cause & corrective actions) within 72 hours.

47) Guardrail systems shall be able to withstand a force of at least _____ lbs applied in any downward or horizontal direction at any point on the top rail.

  • 200
  • 300
  • 400
  • 500
Guardrails must resist at least 200 lbs of force on the top rail per OSHA and Aramco requirements to provide reliable fall protection.

48) What is the minimum concentration of H2S that is considered Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH)?

  • 10 ppm
  • 50 ppm
  • 100 ppm
  • 500 ppm
The IDLH for hydrogen sulfide is 100 ppm — levels at or above this are immediately dangerous and require urgent escape/respiratory protection.

49) The maximum working pressure on an acetylene gauge is _____ psig.

  • 7
  • 10
  • 15
  • 20
Acetylene becomes unstable above 15 psig; safe working pressure must not exceed 15 psi to avoid decomposition and explosion risk.

50) Which is the correct procedure to de-energize an electric circuit?

  • Lock, tag, clear and try.
  • Lock, tag, try and clear.
  • Tag, lock, clear and try.
  • None of the above.
Correct LOTO sequence: Lock (isolate), Tag (warn), Clear (ensure personnel are safe), then Try (verify de-energized) — ‘Lock, tag, clear and try.’
